Welcome to a relaxing cycling holiday through Germany’s most famous wine region. During your journey, you’ll not only enjoy delicious wines and local cuisine but also experience castles, medieval villages with beautiful half-timbered houses, and of course, the tranquil pace of the Moselle River.

This Moselle Valley cycling tour is perfect for those who prefer a more relaxed and easy-going holiday — or for families (children’s bikes and trailers are available for rent). The route is almost entirely car-free, following dedicated cycle paths with very few hills.

Your starting point is the ancient Roman city of Trier. From there, you’ll ride past charming villages such as Bernkastel-Kues, Traben-Trarbach, Cochem, and Neumagen-Dhron, before finishing in Koblenz.

You can choose between accommodation in charming, family-run guesthouses or comfortable 3 to 4-star hotels.

We’ve selected the stretches that best capture the beauty of the Moselle Valley. All our tours start in Trier and end in selected towns depending on the number of cycling days you prefer. Dya 1 Arrival in Trier

The ancient Roman city of Trier is the starting point for your journey through the vineyards of the Moselle Valley. Trier is well worth arriving early to explore its many historical sights, such as the Kaiserthermen Roman bath ruins, the Hauptmarkt square, or the impressive Porta Nigra gate.

Day 2 From Trier to Trittenheim - 42 km

You begin your cycling journey through the Moselle Valley on a dedicated cycle path from Trier, soon passing the town of Schweich. From here, you ride through a landscape filled with vineyards on your way to Trittenheim. At the end of the day, we recommend visiting a local winery for a tasting of eight different wines. 42 km

Day 3 From Trittenheim to Zeltingen - 35 km

In the morning, you cycle through Neumagen-Dhron, the oldest and most famous wine-producing area in Germany. The Roman wine press in Piesport is well worth a visit before stopping for lunch in the village square of Bernkastel, known for its beautiful half-timbered houses. After a long and relaxing lunch, you continue cycling to Zeltingen. 35 km

Day 4 From Zeltingen to Zell - 36 km

The route continues through the famous wine-growing region of Kröver Nacktarsch on your way to Traben-Trarbach. Soon after, you’ll reach Enkirch, known for its beautiful half-timbered houses. You then continue over Zeller Hamm, surrounded by thousands of grapevines, before arriving in Zell, where you will spend the night. 36 km

Day 5 From Zell to Treis-Karden - 47 km

Today’s cycling takes you through several “postcard villages” such as Beilstein and Cochem, as well as the 11th-century Reichsburg Castle. Toward the end of the day, you’ll reach the gem of Treis-Karden, with its castles, churches, and half-timbered houses. 47 km

Day 6 From Treis-Karden to Koblenz - 42 km

Start your day with a visit to the medieval Eltz Castle before cycling toward Koblenz. Along the way, you’ll pass Germany’s oldest wooden house, Abteihof in Kobern-Gondorf, dating back to 1320. You’ll then arrive in the city of Koblenz. 42 km

Day 7 Departure day

After breakfast, the journey ends. You can either pre-book a transfer back to Trier (see the “Prices & What’s included” tab) or use local transportation.

Day 5 From Zell to Cochem - 36 km

Today’s cycling takes you through charming “postcard villages” such as Beilstein and Cochem. You’ll spend the night in Cochem, your final overnight stay on this trip. 36 km

Day 6 Departure day

After breakfast, your trip comes to an end. You can either pre-book a transfer back to Trier (see the “Prices & What’s included” tab) or use local transportation. Trains run from Cochem to Trier or to Frankfurt Airport.

6 days/ 5 nights, 'The wineyard journey'

Day 1 Arrival in Trier/ Ruwertal

Just outside Trier lies the idyllic Ruwertal, where you’ll check in at a hotel surrounded by vineyards. If time allows, visit the ancient Roman city of Trier, which is truly worth exploring for its many historic sights, such as the ruins of the Roman Baths Kaiserthermen, the Hauptmarkt Square, and the Porta Nigra.

Day 2 From Trier to Neumagen-Drohn/Priesport - 39 km (44 km)

You’ll begin your cycling tour among the vineyards, perhaps stopping in the small village of Mehring before continuing to Neumagen-Drohn, the oldest and most famous wine-producing area in Germany. The Roman wine press in Piesport is well worth a visit. 39 km (44 km)

Day 3 From Neumagen-Drohn/ Piesport to Burg/ Reil - approx. 48 km (52 km)

Today you’ll cycle to the village of Bernkastel-Kues, known for its half-timbered houses, charming restaurants, and lively squares. You’ll then continue along the river past Zeltingen, home to famous vineyards such as Zeltinger Himmelreich, Schlossberg, and Sonnenuhr. The route then takes you through the Kröver Nacktarsch vineyards before reaching your accommodation in Burg or Reil. Approx. 52 km.

Day 4 From Burg/ Reil to Pommern - approx. 57 km (59 km)

In the morning, you’ll cycle through the vineyards of Zell, famous for their Schwarze Katz wines. Afterwards, you can visit the lovely villages of Beilstein and Cochem before continuing to the charming wine village of Pommern, where you’ll spend the night at a guesthouse. A wine tasting at a nearby winery is included. Approx. 57 km.

Day 5 From Pommern to Koblenz - approx. 43 km (48 km)

The day begins with a short detour to the medieval Burg Eltz, a beautiful old castle nestled in the hills. You’ll then cycle back to the Moselle River and roll down to the historic wine town of Kobern-Gondorf. Take the opportunity to visit the terraced vineyards, famous for their steep slopes where Riesling and Pinot Noir are grown. The tour concludes as you cycle into the city of Koblenz. Approx. 40 km.
