Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Bled

Welcome to Bled, one of Slovenia’s top holiday destinations. The town sits on the eastern side of the emerald-green Lake Bled, where the beautiful church stands proudly on its own island. The town’s castle is also majestically perched high on a cliff overlooking the town and lake.

Day 2 Hike from Bled to Pokljuka – 14 km

A short transfer takes you to the top of the Pokljuka plateau (1280 m), the starting point of today’s stage and also the starting point of many hiking trails in the Julian Alps. The trail takes you over mountains and through dense spruce forest up to the Lipanska hut, where you can rest over a traditional hiker’s lunch. The afternoon offers world-class hiking, with panoramic views of the Karawanken massif, Pokljuka, the Krm Valley and the Bohinj Mountains.
The day ends in the Pokljuka Biathlon Centre, where you will spend the night.
14 km, +710 m, -640 m, 6 h

Day 3 Hike from Pokljuka to Planika Valley - 12 km

After breakfast, you will head into the heart of Triglav National Park, Slovenia’s only national park. From here, you’ll hike to the Vodnikov hut for some rest and perhaps lunch. The final destination of the day is the Planika Valley hut, located right at the foot of Slovenia’s highest mountain, Triglav (2864 metres above sea level). The Planika Valley is the perfect starting point to climb Triglav, but to do so you will need to book extra nights. The climb also requires some alpine experience. Contact EverTrek for more information.
Please note! Today your luggage will be collected from the hotel in Pokljuka and then stored at our local partner’s office in Bled until you reach Bohinj at the end of day 6. You won’t have access to it until then, so make sure you have everything you need in your rucksack for the next few days.
12 km, +1140 m, -110 m, 7 h

Day 4 Hike from Planika Valley to the Triglav Lakes - 11 km

After breakfast, you will start the day’s hike over the Hribarice Pass (2358 metres above sea level) in the direction of the Triglav Lakes hut. Along the hike, there is every reason to make many stops to admire the seven lakes of the national park, not least Zeleno Jezero, the Green Lake, named after the plants that colour the lake green. The rest of the hike offers beautiful views over the valley of the Triglav Lakes, before finally reaching the hut for recovery and overnight stay.
11 km, +230 m, -910 m, 6 h

Day 5 Hike from the Triglav Lakes to Komna – 8 km

Today you will hike west, towards Black Lake, the lowest lake in the Triglav Lakes valley, named after its location in the middle of a forest. Thanks to its low location, Black Lake is the warmest of the Triglav Lakes.
You will end the day in Komna, a plateau with stunning views of Lake Bohinj.
Overnight in the Komna hut.

Day 6 Hike from Komna to Ribcev Laz/Bohini Valley - 16 km

After breakfast, a relaxing old military road takes you down to the Savica waterfall, one of the most famous and popular waterfalls in Slovenia. From an alpine spring at the top, cascades of water fall 78 metres into the mighty Lake Bohinj. The hike continues along the northern shore of Lake Bohinj to the village of Ribcev Laz, where you can enjoy delicious homemade honey brandy and schnapps in one of the local bars. During the summer months you can enjoy a swim in the crystal clear waters of Lake Bohinj, or why not take the gondola up to the top of Mount Vogel? From the summit (1532 metres above sea level) you have a fantastic panoramic view of the entire Julian Alps.
Overnight in a hotel in the Bohini Valley.
16 km, +60 m, -1200 m, 5-6 h

Day 7 Hike around Ribcev Laz/Bohini Valley

Today you can either rest or choose from excellent hiking opportunities, including the 1.6-kilometre-long Vintgar Gorge, opened to visitors with wooden walkways. The Radovna River runs through the gorge, with strong currents, waterfalls, potholes and, in places, still ponds. Along the wooden walkways you are surrounded by high rock walls and the river thundering just below.
If you then continue east and follow the signs for Bled, you will reach the church of St Catherine after about 1 km. From here it is about 4 km back to Lake Bled. If you prefer a more leisurely hike on your last day, there is also a hiking trail around the lake that takes about 1 hour. You can also take a so-called ‘Pletna’, a special boat, to visit the famous island with its church, or the castle and its museum. The museum has an interesting exhibition on the history of the castle, well worth a visit.
