Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival to Gojón

Check in at your hotel in Gijón. If you arrive during the day, take the opportunity to visit the Palacio de Revillagigedo and La Colegiata de San Juan Bautista, two magnificent historic buildings in the heart of this historic city. In addition, Gijón offers excellent cuisine and two beautiful beaches.

Day 2 From Gijón to Aviles - 24 km

We suggest taking bus no. 12 to the Fatima bus stop to leave the city. Once you reach the hiking trail, you’ll be treated to a varied landscape, including countryside, industrial areas, and eucalyptus forests.

Upon reaching Avilés, we recommend a walk around the town, which is classified as a historic site. The pedestrian streets in Galiana and Rivero, as well as Plaza de España with its grand town hall, are worth prioritizing. The old Sabugo Church, dating back to the 15th century, is also worth a visit, along with the impressive manor houses Valdecarzana and Camposagrado, and last but not least: Teatro Palacio Valdés.

24 km, 6 h

Day 3 From Aviles to Muros de Nalon - 24 km

From Avilés, the trail takes you to San Cristóbal, where you have a wonderful view of Salinas and the coast, before following the path down to the beach.

We suggest taking the Senda Costera (coastal path) from San Esteban de Pravia, rather than the regular St. James route that follows the road/highway in this section. The Senda Costera is a dedicated walkway that follows the beach all the way to Playa de Aguilar. This path starts as you leave the pier at San Esteban. The distance between San Esteban and Playa de Aguilar is 8 kilometers (about two hours of walking).

24 km, 6 h

Day 4 From Muros de Nalon to Soto de Luiña - 16,5 km

Today’s hike is a varied stage featuring villages, chapels, manor houses, beaches, and forests. We recommend taking a short detour through Cudillero, a small fishing village well worth a visit.

In Soto de Luiña, be sure not to miss the beautiful church of Santa María.

Day 5 From Soto de Luiña to Cadavedo - 23,5 km

At first, you walk along a former main road, then turn off to follow the coast instead. The hike includes some uphill and downhill sections, but thanks to the beautiful landscape, you will hardly notice them.

23.5 km, 6 h

Day 6 From Cadavedo to Luarca – 16,6 km

This short but pleasant hiking day is a mix of trails with a few short sections along the main road.

16.6 km, 4 h 30 min

Day 7 From Luarca to Navia – 18,5 km

Today’s stage is short and easy. However, it is rich in remnants from ancient pilgrims, including the churches of Santiago Apostol, San Bartolomeo, and San Salvador. The hike ends in Navia and its fishing port.

18.5 km, 5 h

Day 8 From Navia to Ribadeo – 32 km

On this final hiking day in Asturias, you again have two options: either walk along the coast or through the countryside. At the end of the day, you will cross the sea inlet, Ría de Ribadeo, which forms a natural border between Asturias and Galicia.

32 km, 8 h
