Discover Slovenia – in a glorious alpine setting and magnificent surroundings with great views. Some of the highlights of this hike are the famous Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, along with Mt. Triglav National Park. This is the perfect hiking trip for those who like stunning views of majestic mountains, enchanted valleys and beautiful lakes. The trip starts in the famous Kranjska Gora and takes you to Bled and Bohinj, among others.
We categorise the difficulty level as 3 out of 5 hikers, so the trip is suitable for those who want to hike in a mountain environment, but without very difficult climbs.

Itinerary

8 days/ 7 nights

Day 1 Arrival in Kranjska Gora

Welcome to Kranjska Gora, famous for the annual World Cup slalom race in winter.
The village is surrounded by beautiful mountains, so you will have beautiful views all day.

Day 2 Hike around Kranjska Gora - 17 km

Today you will visit the beautiful Lake Jasna before hiking into the equally beautiful Jasna Valley, where you will encounter the Prisank and Razor mountains. A suitable stop is at the Krnica hut, where you can try a traditional home-made stew. On the way back, you can visit the ‘Russian Chapel’, which is a monument dedicated to the Russians who died during the First World War while building the military road over the Vršič pass.

Day 3 Hike around ‘The three-country border’ & Kranjska Gora - 18 km

This hike takes you along forests and meadows to the top of Mt. Peč (1,508 m) where the land-borders between Slovenia, Italy and Austria meet. At the top, you can enjoy dramatic views of the Alps. The trail then descends through the valley to the source of Slovenia’s longest river Sava, before heading back to Kranjska Gora.

Day 4 Hike around the Vintgar gorge & Lake Bled - 13 km

The day starts with a transfer through the Radovna Valley, surrounded by beautiful mountain peaks, until you reach the 150 m deep Vintgar Gorge. The trail then takes you through the gorge and on to the world-famous Lake Bled. Along the way, you can stop at the Katarina Church viewpoint. Here you get a beautiful view of Bled Castle. If you arrive early enough, take the opportunity to hike up to the castle for a great view of the church on the island.

Day 5 Hike around Lake Bled - 15 km

You’ll start the day with a stroll into Bled, a popular town situated on the shores of the beautiful lake, with its medieval castle watching over the church on the small island. For the best pictures and views of the lake, church and castle, the Karavanke mountain range – hike up to the Mala Osojnica viewpoint on the western side of the lake. We recommend to end the day with the local speciality – the cream cake ‘Kremšnita’ – in one of the small lakeside cafes.

Day 6 Hike around the Pokljuka plateau & Lake Bohinj - 15 km

In the morning, you’ll get a transfer up to the Pokljuka plateau, where your hike across alpine meadows, via rustic farmhouses to a viewpoint in the beautiful Bohinj Valley starts. As you descend, we recommend you to stop at the small historic village of Studor. You then arrive at beautifully situated Lake Bohinj.

Day 7 Hike around Lake Bohinj - 18 km

Today you will hike around this beautiful, peaceful lake, which is surrounded by the huge peaks of the Julian Alps. Perhaps you’ll take the opportunity to take a dip in the fresh water. For lunch, why not try the local Bohinj trout? At the western end of the lake, there is a short path up to the Savica waterfall, and the Sava Bohinjka river. From here you can take the cable car up to the 1,532 metre Vogel Mountain with a spectacular view of the Triglav Mountain, the highest peak in the Julian Alps.
In the evening, visit one of the cosy village pubs and maybe try the local honey brandy.
