Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival
You arrive in Montefiascone, a small town situated on a high hill with incredible views over Lake Bolsena. The town has several medieval monuments and churches that are worth visiting if possible.
Day 2 Hike from Montefiascone to Viterbo – 18 km
Our first walking route goes from Montefiascone to Viterbo. You begin by walking along the plain that separates Lake Bolsena from the Cimini Mountains. There is little settlement along the way, but you will pass several drinking fountains to quench your thirst. Once you arrive in Viterbo, we recommend strolling around this beautiful town. Enjoy a lovely dinner at one of the town’s many excellent restaurants.

Day 3 From Viterbo to Vetralla – 21 km
During today’s route, you will walk along paths through the Etruscan countryside. Here you hike through a fantastic area, with many spots to enjoy a well-deserved picnic. In the cozy little village of Vetralla, we spend the night. You end the day with a wonderful dinner, which is included tonight.
21 km, +550 m, -545 m
Day 4 Hike from Vetralla to Sutri via Caprancia – 24 km
Today’s route is the longest of the trip. You travel from Vetralla, hiking along a volcano. Along the walk, you will enjoy beautiful views of Lake Vico, and the journey continues through the Etruscan countryside until you reach the small village of Capranica for lunch. Towards the evening, we arrive at today’s final destination, Sutri via Capranica. Here you can relax with good food and drink.
24 km, +375 m, -385 m
Day 5 From Sutri via Caprancia to Campagnano – 24 km or 15 km
We begin today’s route by hiking across enchanting fields to Monterosi, a small town by a beautiful lake. After a while, you reach Monte Gelato and the impressive waterfall, where you can stop to rest and take a well-deserved swim. When you feel ready, continue the hike along a path with fantastic views until you reach Campagnano.
24 km, +280 m, -300 m
You can shorten today’s route by taking a transfer to Monterosi to start the hike to Campagnano from there.
Day 6 Hike from Campagnano to La Giustiniana – 25 km
Today’s hike goes through the Roman countryside. The route is fairly flat, following gravel paths or country roads, with only a few hills in the final section. You will also pass a stream that you need to cross; if the water level is high, this crossing can be a small challenge. The day’s destination is the village of La Giustiniana, located four kilometers past Storta. You can also shorten the hike by a few kilometers by taking local transport from Storta to La Giustiniana.
25 km, +450 m, -635 m
Day 7 From La Giustiniana to Rome – 18 km
Today you can choose between hiking or taking public transport to Rome. If you decide to hike to Rome, you start the day through the beautiful Insugherata Nature Reserve, just a stone’s throw from the city. However, much of today’s walk follows busy roads and suburbs into Rome. Most of our guests usually take local transport for this entire stretch, mainly to avoid walking along roads and suburbs and to have more time to enjoy Rome.
Why not stop for a lovely photo at Monte Mario Belvedere, where you can catch a glimpse of St. Peter’s Basilica dome? You then continue down to Piazza San Pietro, your final destination for this pilgrimage.
While in Rome, we recommend visiting all the historic sites, attractions, and amazing architecture. Also, take the opportunity to try some of the city’s excellent restaurants.
