Welcome to Normandy!
Embark on this very exciting cycling holiday and discover the beautiful landscape and interesting history of this region.
During the trip you will experience the following:
Cycling along the Côte de Nacre and through the marshes of Cotentin
From the cosy little town of Bayeux, you will cycle to the most important and famous D-Day landing beaches. Under the Allied flags, which still fly here and there, you will experience a region that will forever be marked by the events of 6 June 1944.
- Omaha Beach, Juno Beach, Gold Beach, Sword Beach, Utah Beach. This is where thousands of soldiers from the American, British, French and Polish Allied Forces landed. Each site holds a piece of history and has its own story to tell from that day.
- Stop and explore some of the museums you pass along the way. They give an insight into the forces that were there, the equipment used and the geographical area covered by the D-Day landings.
- The American, Canadian and German military cemeteries bear witness to the scale and violence of the attacks. These sites are full of emotional power and pay tribute to those who made it possible for freedom to return.
- Sainte-Mère-Église and its bell tower, famous for the paratrooper who landed there in dramatic circumstances.
Between these historic sites, you will cycle through an idyllic Norman forest landscape. The small roads you cycle on lead you to many beautiful manors, castles and churches, preserved or rebuilt after the war.
Quite simply a journey between land and sea, from the English conquest in 1066 to the liberation in 1945.
A really great trip for those interested in history, beautiful landscapes, good food and fine old architecture.
