Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Geneva
Welcome to the starting point of your journey, Geneva. Get out and walk around the city and enjoy the stunning views of beautiful Lake Geneva. The city has a lot to offer both in terms of culture and culinary experiences.
Day 2 Cycling from Geneva to Seyssel - 62 km
You start the day by collecting your cycling equipment and get information about the route of the journey. Today you will start your bike ride towards Annecy, a stunningly beautiful route. You’ll cycle along the beautiful Rhône River and pass the lovely vineyards of Dardagny and Satigny. You will also pass the Fort de l’Ecluse, which is built tightly into the mountain cliffs. This fort was built by the Duke of Savoy and forms a natural gateway to the Rhône Valley, between the Vauche hills and the Jura. You will spend the night in Seyssel on the Rhône.
Day 3 Cycling from Seyssel to Aix-les-Bains - 46 km
Today’s bike ride offers stunning views of the Bauges mountain range on one side and Mont de la Charvaz and Col-du-Chat on the other. Today you will pass the magical Lake Bourget, created by a glacier with the deepest lake in France. We recommend you stop here for a refreshing swim. Your route then continues towards the impressive Château de Montverran in Culoz, a medieval castle built in 1316. When you’re ready to continue, pedal on to the final destination of the day, the spa town of Aix-les-Bains. The city is mainly known for its baths, dating back to the Roman Empire. Here we spend the rest of the evening and night!
Day 4 Cycling from Aix-les-Bains to Sainte-Hélène-sur-Isère – 66 km
Today you will head towards the cultural city of Chambery, through the heart of the Savoy. Chambery is nestled between the Bauges and Chartreuse mountain ranges. You then continue past the Chateau de Miolans, with its magical views over the wine region of the Combe de Savoie valley. It’s worth stopping here to enjoy the view and perhaps take a much-needed break. You will cycle along the river Isère for the last part until you reach Grésy-sur-Isère.
Day 5 Cycling from Sainte-Hélène-sur-Isère to Annecy – 56 km
Today you will cycle through the legendary winter sports village of Albertville, located on the Arly River. Albertville hosted the 1992 Winter Olympics. Here you can take a look at the old medieval town of Conflans, whose buildings date back to the 14th century. Then, as you head towards Annecy, you can glimpse the Beaufortain and Bauges mountain ranges on the horizon. After a wonderful week, you roll into the beautiful town of Annecy, situated at the northern tip of Lake Annecy. With its canals criss-crossing the town, it is reminiscent of Venice, but now among the mountain peaks. We therefore recommend you to walk along the canals and discover what the city has to offer, such as the Palais de l’Isle, the Chateau d’Annecy, the 17th century Saint-Pierre Cathedral and the Pont des Amours.
