Cycle from Bordeaux to Toulouse

Cycle along the Canal de Garonne – from Bordeaux to Toulouse

The journey begins in Bordeaux – once called “the sleeping beauty”, but today one of France’s most vibrant and charming cities. Here, you’ll find elegant boulevards, historic buildings, and a relaxed city atmosphere.

You then leave the city’s pulse behind and follow the Canal de Garonne. Over the course of about 190 kilometers, you’ll cycle at an easy pace along the canal, through lush landscapes, past locks and vineyards. This is one of France’s most beautiful cycling routes – perfect for anyone who wants to experience the countryside, culture, and joie de vivre of southwestern France.

Along the way, you’ll encounter charming villages and local markets. Stop for a sunny break on a terrace in Damazan and enjoy a glass of wine and one of the region’s specialties. Here, you’ll get a taste of authentic French living.

The journey ends in Toulouse, “the pink city”, where the brick architecture glows in the evening light and narrow streets lead you to hidden squares and cozy cafés.

Next, you reach the medieval village of La Réole, a true gem on the banks of the Garonne River. Take time to explore its narrow streets and enjoy the views over the valley from the old Benedictine abbey. Day 4 From Mas D'Agenais to Agen - 53 km

You continue your journey along the beautiful Canal des Deux Mers, where the landscape is lined with greenery and calm waters. The first highlight of the day is the small town of Damazan – a typical medieval bastide with colorful façades and a charming square, perfect for a sunny break.

Shortly after, you reach the idyllic port of Buzet-sur-Baise, beautifully set amidst lush surroundings. As you approach Agen, you’ll encounter one of the trip’s most impressive structures: the Pont-Canal de la Garonne. This 600-meter-long aqueduct allows you to cross the river by bike. Today, you leave Agen and follow the green cycle path south along the Garonne Canal. The first stop of the day is Valence d’Agen – a charming 13th-century bastide with a genuine, warm atmosphere. Here, you can stroll among well-preserved historic buildings or take a break at the small harbor.

Day 6 From Moissac to Toulouse - 69 km
