Welcome to Provence! Embark on a delightful hike through Provence’s famous vineyards. Starting in Avignon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and ending in the medieval town of Vaison la Romaine, where you can hike up to the Mont Ventoux. You’ll also visit Chateauneuf du Pape, southern France’s most prestigious wine village, where grapes have been grown for 850 years. The Popes brought the vines to this area in the 14th century and, thanks to the marvellous growing conditions, many world-famous and esteemed vintages have been produced. The best way to discover these vineyards is on foot.
You’ll wander between the vines from one farm to the next, which have been run by the same families for generations. You’ll pass through Séguret and Gigondas, two medieval villages perched high above the Rhône valley, framed by endless seas of famous vineyards. From Gigondas, you’ll hike on to the Dentelles de Montmirail, the small limestone mountain range that rises high and defiant above the Rhône Valley. You then continue towards the foot of Mont Ventoux, through orchards and vineyards, with extraordinary panoramic views and a great variety of landscapes.
At 1912 metres, Mont Ventoux is the highest peak in Provence. Its remarkable silhouette paints the backdrop to this scenic part of Provence.
