After landing in Faro, you’ll be transferred to the pleasant town of Lagos. If you arrive on an early flight, there’s plenty to explore, from the old city walls to the waterfront town, lined with elegant palm trees. Wander along the narrow cobbled streets and admire terracotta pots of flowering bougainvillea. For the evening, we recommend fresh seafood at a local restaurant in preparation for tomorrow’s hike.

After a buffet breakfast of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals and much more, today’s hike starts through the old and narrow alleys down to the sea. You will follow the coast to Ponta da Piedade, where you can admire the different colours of the cliffs, which contrast sharply with the turquoise sea. You continue along the path, where you can see seabirds along the way. You will then reach the small town of Luz, originally a fishing village but now a charming town protected by the Rocha Negra (black cliffs). There is also an old fortress here, which has a restaurant with great views of the Atlantic. Perhaps have dinner on one of the terraces while watching the sun go down.
12 km, + 450 m

As you wander along the coast today, you will come across many small fishing villages and old fortresses. Enjoy the incredible diversity of seabirds along the way, stop at a local restaurant and sample fresh fish overlooking miles of beaches. You’ll then arrive in Salema, which has a great variety of restaurants, so in the evening you can wander through the streets of the small village and choose a nice restaurant.
13 km, + 400 m

Today you can choose between a 17 or 9 km hike, or a relaxing rest day in Salema where you can explore the nearby coves and enjoy a delicious lunch at a local café. The hiking day begins with a short transfer from Salema to Barão de São João, a small inland village characterised by its coloured window grilles and distinctive chimneys that have unusual shapes and patterns. From here you’ll hike along paths through pine forests and through other whitewashed inland villages on your way back to the coast.
17 km, + 300 m, (9 km, + 200 m)

Today’s hike takes you along the unspoilt coastline with its secret beaches and lagoons. The trail passes the beaches of Ingrina and Zavial, where you can stop at a beach bar to admire the views, and have a lunch of fresh seafood. You’ll then arrive in Sagres, located in the far south-west of the Algarve. Take the time to wander around Sagres’ picturesque harbour and pretty squares in the afternoon or evening. Tonight, admire the view from the restaurant of your comfortable and modern 4-star hotel.
17 km (11 km), +700 m (+200 m)

The day starts with a short transfer from Sagres to San Vicente. You will then hike back towards Sagres. On the way there is the opportunity to discover hidden beaches between the cliffs, enjoy the view of the Atlantic Ocean and imagine this area centuries ago, when every harbour had a fortress from which many ships set sail to seek new continents.
15 km, + 200 m
