Cycle in Bordeaux - 7, 6 or 5 days

Cycle in the area where some of the world’s most famous vineyards are located. You’ll pedal along the ‘Route des Vins et Chateaux’, through Haut-Medoc and Margaux, then cross the Gironde River to visit Fronsac, Pomerol and Saint Emilion, among others. As well as the fabulous wines and châteaux, you’ll also visit historic towns and charming villages, rolling countryside and the Dordogne and Garonne rivers.
During the week, you will ride on cycle paths and minor roads, in a fairly flat terrain, cycling between 20 and 50 km per day. You will stay in 3-star hotels and charming guesthouses. The trip ends in Bordeaux, where we recommend you to extend for one or more nights.

Day 1 Arrival in Pian Médoc

On arrival at Bordeaux Airport or train station, a transfer to Pian Médoc is included.

Day 2 Castle route from Pian Medoc to Moulis - 25 km (40 km)

Today’s route through the heart of the ‘Medoc Rouge’ is one of the most beautiful in the area. Start the day by cycling through the famous vineyards and wineries of Margaux, Haut-Medoc. We recommend you to take a break in some of the lovely little harbour villages along the Gironde, such as St. Julien. The cycle tour ends in Moulis, where you will spend the night.

Day 3 Cycle from Moulis to Bourg/ Saint-Gervais / St-André de Cubzac – 40 km (55 km)

Today you will take a boat from Lamarque across the Gironde River. You will arrive at the beautiful citadel of Blay, from where you have fantastic views over the village, the vineyards, and across the Gironde. Later in the day, you will cycle through the vineyards of Côtes de Blaye AOC Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur. Before arriving in Bourg-sur-Gironde, you will pass the ‘Conriche Fleurie’ with palm trees and flowers typical of a lovely, balmy climate.

Day 4 Cycle through the vineyards of Fronsac, Pomerol & Saint-Emilion - 40 km (50 km)

Today you will cycle through the two famous appellations of Fronsac and Pomerol. Today’s route will take you into the heart of the best wines of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion, such as Château Angelus, Chateau Petrus and Château Cheval Blanc! Not to be forgotten is Fronsac, which is a very historic estate. The landscape is like beautiful mosaic of hills, plateaus and vineyards that stretch as far as the eye can see.

Day 5 Cycle around Saint-Emilion – 25 km (35 km)

Today you can choose between a shorter route of 25 km, or 35 km route among Saint-Emilion’s eastern vineyards and villages. After Castillon la Bataille, you will cycle along the Dordogne on your way back to your hotel in Saint-Emilion.

Day 6 Cycling from Saint-Emilion to Bordeaux – 50 km

After crossing the Dordogne River, you’ll come to the ‘Roger Lapébie’ cycle path, which runs through the beautiful countryside to Creon. You will pedal past medieval towns, old houses, mills, abbeys and Roman churches before arriving at the Place de la Bourse, located in the heart of Bordeaux. Overnight in Bordeaux.

Day 1 Arrival in Pian Médoc

Day 2 Castle route from Pian Medoc to Margeaux/ Moulis - 28 km (35 km)

Today’s route through the heart of the ‘Medoc Rouge’ is one of the most beautiful in the area. Start the day by cycling through the famous vineyards and wineries of Margaux, Haut-Medoc. 28 km (35 km)

Day 3 Cycling from Margeaux/Moulis to Saint-Yzans - 50 km (60 km)

Today you will cycle in the wine region, past famous vineyards and castles along the Medoc area. The ‘capital’ of the Medoc, Paulliac, with its charming little harbour, is one of the highlights of the day. It is also home to the famous châteaux and winemakers Latour and Lafite Rotschild. You end the day’s tour in Saint-Yzans.
50 km (60 km)

Day 4 Round trip along the Gironde - 40 km (50 km)

Today you will cycle along the banks of the Gironde and its small villages, which are reminiscent of the Camargue. A tip is to stop and visit the small harbours of St Christoly or La Marechale. The lighthouse “Phare de Richard” offers a fantastic view of the estuary. You will return to Saint-Yzans at the end of the day and finish where you started.

Day 5 Departure day

Breakfast, and then check-out. A taxi transfer to Bordeaux airport, alternatively to the center of Bordeaux, is included in the price of the trip.

Your accommodation is located in the centre of Bordeaux and the airport is close to the city. Take an airport bus or taxi.
If you are travelling by TGV between Bordeaux and Paris, it is easy to get to the train station.
