Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival to Helsingborg

Check in to the centrally located hotel. Hopefully you will have time for some sightseeing in this beautiful, medieval town by the ocean.

Day 2 Helsingborg – Ängelholm: 62 km (49 km)

This part of Kattegattleden offers a lovely coastal tour with staggering views of Öresund and out to Danish Zealand.

Day 3 Ängelholm – Halmstad: 60 km (41 km)

From Ängelholm, Kattegattleden continues along the coast before the path departs and you will cut across the peninsula, into the heart of Bjäre. The climb will be gentle at first, but soon becomes steeper. You are now proceeding into a modern agricultural setting, and will gradually reach the small-scale agricultural countryside that has been based on livestock since prehistoric times and is typical of Bjärehalvön. After a thrilling ride down the ridge, the stretch concludes in the entertainment metropolis of Båstad. After a visit in Båstad, you’ll take the train to Halmstad. (Train ticket at your own expense.)

Day 4 Halmstad – Falkenberg: 57 km

From Halmstad city the ride will continue west, towards one of the most beloved beaches of the west coast, Tylösand, followed by the beaches of Frösakull, Ringenäs and Vilshärad. After this the path turns towards east and connects to Kustvägen, the coast road.

Along the way you’ll pass several beautiful nature reserves with unique beach meadows both before and after the charming village of Steninge. Right around Steninge beach the landscape will change from barren and stony into a lush agricultural setting, guiding you to your overnight stop of the day: Falkenberg.

Day 5 Falkenberg – Varberg: 39 km

The route continues through the town of Falkenberg, one of the oldest of Hallands’ medieval towns. As you are getting closer to Varberg, the final destination of the day, you’ll pass Apelviken, a beach that attracts windsurfers from all over Europe. A short ride away the Varberg Fortress will tower before you, well worth a visit. You can bike all the way up to the fortress if you are up for a challenge. Or, make a visit to Societetsparken instead and take a well-deserved rest in the shade of the leafy trees.

Day 6 Varberg – Kungsbacka: 72 km (50 km)

North of Varberg, the scenery changes – sandy beaches become rocky cliffs and the first islands begin to appear, like Getterön, Balgö and Vendelsö. Further on you will get to a quiet stretch along the ocean and the beautiful beaches of Åsa.
Further up the route we recommend a small detour to visit Tjolöholm Castle, Sweden’s only Tudor castle, before continuing to Fjärås Bräcka, famous for its 100 standing stones at the Li grave field. The route continues on small roads along fields and horse pastures until you reach Kungsbacka, the final stop for today and one of the largest trade centres in western Sweden.

Possible to shorten to 65 km. Also possible to shorten to 48 km by biking Varberg – Åsa, and take the train from Åsa to Kungsbacka.

Day 7 Kungsbacka – Göteborg: 63 km (41 km)

This last stretch of the route runs along the Kungsbacka fjord, back towards the ocean. You’ll pass the small seaside village of Särö, where royalty and the Gothenburg society met up for amusement in the early twentieth century. The trail continues along cliffs, lush forests, bays and small harbours, offering plenty of places to swim or just relax. As you approach central Gothenburg, you will pass Nya Varvet and the Klippan Culture Reserve and continue along Göta älv until you reach your final destination: the Göteborg Opera and the Lilla Bommen harbour. Welcome to Gothenburg and your hotel located just beside the cycle path.
62 km.

Possible to shorten to 41 km by skipping the Onsala peninsula.

Kattegattleden reverse (Gothenburg- Helsingborg)
Hi all, It was a wonderful bike trip, the weather was also fine and we didn't get wet. The individual stages are very well chosen. Our eBikes were as good as new and worked perfectly, only half of the battery capacity was needed. The maps are excellent and helpful. The organization with luggage transport and the communication with Evertrek were perfect. The hotels were all top including breakfast, but the room in Helsingborg could have been a bit bigger, although that wasn't a problem for one night. We were amazed at how few people cycled on the Kattegattleden. All in all, it was a very great experience and we can only recommend Evertrek.

Wonderful experience, flawlessly planned
We booked this trip including rental bikes. Everything worked perfectly, the hotels were all lovely and provided amazing breakfasts, the bikes were in superb condition and comfortable to ride. The path is very well signposted, we mostly did not need the electronic maps provided and when we did, it was always because we had simply missed a sign. Can thoroughly recommend!

High level of customer service!
Very high level of customer service. From bike pick up, baggage delivery and follow up. Bikes were newer and we liked them. This is a nice route - you can basically follow the signs showing you the way. Thank you for such great service and support.

Kattegattleden in May
My husband and I completed the Kattegattleden, booked through EverTrek. We would rate the experience 5 stars. The organization was well done with good bikes, a good app and excellent communication. The hotels were comfortable, close to train stations and the bike path which made sense, especially, the day it rained and we took our bikes on the train. Our luggage arrived at each hotel before we did. We look forward to our next trip. Cynthia Hogan

Awesome experience
The Kattegatteleden ride is a wonderful way to experience the countryside and coastline of Sweden. The ride is moderate in terms of difficulty. Evertrek were excellent to work with. I would suggest going when more of the cafes and shops are open … during the tourist season.

Kattegattleden
It was a great holiday, all the hotels and luggage transfers went well and the route was so well signed that we hardly had to use our apps. The bikes were good but we did find them very heavy. On two occasions we had to call for human pick ups due to torrential rain on one day and a concussion on the other, on both days we were immediately helped and transport arranged. We were very grateful.

Terrific trip!
Just completed our trip from Helsinborg to Gothenburg on the Kattegattleden bike tour. We had a wonderful time, and just loved the cycling along mostly quiet bike paths, along the coast and through farm lands. Organizing the trip with EverTrek was easy, and Gunnar was very available to answer our questions prior to the trip including upgrading us to e-bikes. The information provided was clear and easy to follow and the phone app worked well. Hotels were great- super friendly people, comfortable places. Bike storage at Kungsbacka was down a set of stairs- not optimal and risk for injury to bike and cyclist getting down the stairs. If you plan your trip in September, just be aware that many/most food places along the way may be closed because its after summer holidays- very few places for a mid morning coffee! Thanks for a truly memorable adventure and I will recommend this to anyone who is interested in cycling in Sweden!

Evertrek Custom Tour
Gunnar and team organized a wonderful trip for 7 Kiwis, from Trelleborg to Gothenburg. A wonderful cycling adventure - great cycle paths, well communicated information and pre cycle details, good hotels, and we lucked out also with some pretty good weather. Highly recommended - Sweden was great, and Evertrek made it easy and enjoyable, going above and beyond to accommodate special requests and some stuff ups on our part along the way - recovering items I had left behind. Couldn't recommend Evertrek more highly. Thanks very much.
