Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival to Helsingborg

Check in to the centrally located hotel. Hopefully you will have time for some sightseeing in this beautiful, medieval town by the ocean.

Day 2 Helsingborg – Ängelholm: 62 km (49 km)

This part of Kattegattleden offers a lovely coastal tour with staggering views of Öresund and out to Danish Zealand.

Day 3 Ängelholm – Halmstad: 60 km (41 km)

From Ängelholm, Kattegattleden continues along the coast before the path departs and you will cut across the peninsula, into the heart of Bjäre. The climb will be gentle at first, but soon becomes steeper. You are now proceeding into a modern agricultural setting, and will gradually reach the small-scale agricultural countryside that has been based on livestock since prehistoric times and is typical of Bjärehalvön. After a thrilling ride down the ridge, the stretch concludes in the entertainment metropolis of Båstad. After a visit in Båstad, you’ll take the train to Halmstad. (Train ticket at your own expense.)

Day 4 Halmstad – Falkenberg: 57 km

From Halmstad city the ride will continue west, towards one of the most beloved beaches of the west coast, Tylösand, followed by the beaches of Frösakull, Ringenäs and Vilshärad. After this the path turns towards east and connects to Kustvägen, the coast road.

Along the way you’ll pass several beautiful nature reserves with unique beach meadows both before and after the charming village of Steninge. Right around Steninge beach the landscape will change from barren and stony into a lush agricultural setting, guiding you to your overnight stop of the day: Falkenberg.

Day 5 Falkenberg – Varberg: 39 km

The route continues through the town of Falkenberg, one of the oldest of Hallands’ medieval towns. As you are getting closer to Varberg, the final destination of the day, you’ll pass Apelviken, a beach that attracts windsurfers from all over Europe. A short ride away the Varberg Fortress will tower before you, well worth a visit. You can bike all the way up to the fortress if you are up for a challenge. Or, make a visit to Societetsparken instead and take a well-deserved rest in the shade of the leafy trees.

Day 6 Varberg – Kungsbacka: 72 km (50 km)

North of Varberg, the scenery changes – sandy beaches become rocky cliffs and the first islands begin to appear, like Getterön, Balgö and Vendelsö. Further on you will get to a quiet stretch along the ocean and the beautiful beaches of Åsa.
Further up the route we recommend a small detour to visit Tjolöholm Castle, Sweden’s only Tudor castle, before continuing to Fjärås Bräcka, famous for its 100 standing stones at the Li grave field. The route continues on small roads along fields and horse pastures until you reach Kungsbacka, the final stop for today and one of the largest trade centres in western Sweden.

Possible to shorten to 65 km. Also possible to shorten to 48 km by biking Varberg – Åsa, and take the train from Åsa to Kungsbacka.

Day 7 Kungsbacka – Göteborg: 63 km (41 km)

This last stretch of the route runs along the Kungsbacka fjord, back towards the ocean. You’ll pass the small seaside village of Särö, where royalty and the Gothenburg society met up for amusement in the early twentieth century. The trail continues along cliffs, lush forests, bays and small harbours, offering plenty of places to swim or just relax. As you approach central Gothenburg, you will pass Nya Varvet and the Klippan Culture Reserve and continue along Göta älv until you reach your final destination: the Göteborg Opera and the Lilla Bommen harbour. Welcome to Gothenburg and your hotel located just beside the cycle path.
62 km.

Possible to shorten to 41 km by skipping the Onsala peninsula.

EverTrek were incredible to work with
Gunnar and EverTrek were incredible to work with. From the start, they were answering our questions in detail & right away. During our tour they were always available, fun to work with, and went above and beyond for us. We received incredible value for what we paid, the accommodations were a ton of fun and included a lot of local culture which we liked. Gunnar even took the time to make sure we hit every highlight along the way and it made our trip really special. As someone who has used almost a dozen tour companies in my life, I would rate these guys first and will be using them again.

Kattegattleden north to south
Highly recommend EverTrek. We rented bicycles, booked accommodation and opted for the luggage transportation. Gunnar is super friendly, helpful, quick to respond and tailored our Gothenburg- Helsingborg trip exactly to our needs. Great quality gravel bikes. Luggage was always there upon arrival. Upon departure we noticed our Thule trailer couldn’t attach to the bikes, which Gunnar solved within 30 min by buying a different hub at the local bike store at no extra charge. Had the weather been better I would have rated six stars.

Kattegattleden great experience
We decided to do this trip one week before starting and Gunnar did a great job with the management of our holidays. Everything was very well organized and we didn’t have anything to worry about. Kattegattleden is a lovely route, we were really lucky with the weather and we had an excellent time in Sweden. Thank EverTrek to make it possible!!!

Ride completed, 100% happy!
Thanks for everything it was perfect! We left the bikes in the garage and the bags in the luggage room. Even though I asked for helmets we forgot to take some at Helsingborg so don’t think we forgot to give them back…we just never had them:) Everything was so well planned, thanks again , we are 100% happy with our journey.

Friendly and flexible!
We enjoyed our trip with Evertrek very much. Their amazing service already started before the trip began - they arranged a "reverse itinerary" to allow us to fit in to our dates. The materials, apps, navigation apps etc provided were really well thought through. One of our bikes developed a problem and they provided a replacement within 2 hours! The choice of accommodation was good. Thoroughly recommended

Wonderful bike trip on the Kattegattleden southwards
We had a wonderfully relaxed, easy bike trip through a beautiful, landscape in a calm and friendly country (nobody ever seems to be stressed here). Evertrek organised the tour perfectly, we received perfect maps and catalogues. We stayed overnight in very carefully chosen hotels, which were not only centrally located and perfectly clean, but also interesting in style and history .We had adequate ,solid bikes. If we had questions, Ever Trek was easily accessible. Doing the journey form North to South was not a disadvantage, as, if there was a wind, it blew mostly directly from the seaside.

An excellent trip
We thoroughly enjoyed cycling the Kattegattleden with EverTrek. The organization of the trip was faultless, with clear information provided in a timely fashion. Any questions were answered promptly. We hired gravel bikes which were of excellent quality and fun to ride. Would highly recommed this cycling trip.

Kattegattleden at 75
I have finished!! What a beautiful ride it was! I have taken hundreds of photographs. It was the perfect tour for my age and experience. I’ll be looking for another tour over similar terrain for next year, perhaps. In addition to the Kattegattleden itself, the hotels have been perfect. Wonderfully helpful staff! Beautiful surrounds, unbelievable breakfast feasts. My only regrets were heartburn on the bike from overeating. The bicycle and equipment performed very well. The Ride with GPS app was good and bad. The visual cues were pretty good. I did follow the whole route to the end but with many wrong turns. These mostly due to problems with the voice cues. I eventually learned to follow the map and ignore a lot of the voice cues. The voice consistently mixed up rights and lefts. When the visual map was not sufficiently detailed, the voice often sent me in the wrong direction. This was the worst on the Saro variation today. The extra scenery was not worth the extra hassle caused by the app. I do not recommend this variation. But overall the tour route was truly beautiful and consistently interesting. I have only one strong suggestion for improvement: the baggage transportation. After 1500 is too late! Most days the ride is over by 1300 or 1400. Waiting around the hotel in sweaty cycling clothes for hours is a bummer. I noticed that the baggage arrived before 1400 until I reached Kungsbacka ((1530) and Gothenburg (It’s 1600 and still waiting.) another option for you is to be clear about the later arrival of baggage to some locations so that the cyclist can decide to pack clean, warm clothing in the saddlebag. The later baggage was even more concerning on Sunday because the hotel Reception was closed. Thank you again! My criticisms are small compared to the overall outstanding quality of the Kattegattleden experience. I definitely recommend Evertrek highly.

A Well Organized Ride!
The Kattegatleden (south to north) was one of the best rides we 4 women have had. We were very impressed with Gunnar’s efficiency in providing pre-ride information and had no trouble in paying by credit card. Having downloaded the maps that Gunnar sent, we were rarely at odds as to where to go. We did not rely on the voice commands, but used the downloaded maps supplemented by the paper maps. The scenery was always engaging and the paved paths were easy to ride. We had e-bikes for the first time and found them to be very functional. The hotels were all comfortable and clean. A highly recommended ride, but bring your rain gear. We were grateful for the option of a shorter route on 2 days because we were able to avoid the deluge by taking the shorter option. Our trip was in early June. Our one negative comment is that in order to store our bikes at the Best Western Hotel Halland in Kungsbacka, we had to carry them down and up 3 flights of stairs. Luckily, the hotel staff assisted because e-bikes are heavy! Perhaps installation of a bike ramp would help.
