King Ludwig’s Way starts at the idyllic Lake Starnberg and then leads you through the Alps, to the castles of the Allgäu region. You’ll hike past remarkable highlights and Bavarian cultural treasures in a landscape that Bavarian monarch King Ludwig II loved and which ultimately inspired him to build several castles and palaces. Along the trail you will find small monastery towns, quiet villages, lakes and moors. Enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the Ammergau Alps, the Zugspitze and the mountains of the Allgäu, just like King Ludwig used to do. Evenings and nights are spent in small and picturesque villages along the trail.
