Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival to Logroño

Check in at your hotel in the afternoon in La Rioja’s capital, Logroño. Here, you can visit the beautiful Santa María de la Redonda Cathedral and its historic old quarter.

Day 2 From Logroño to Nájera – 28 km

From Logroño to Nájera, we pass through vineyards and grain fields in La Rioja. Nájera, the former capital of Navarra, is worth visiting, especially the Franciscan monastery Santa María de Real.

28 km, 7 h

Day 3 From Nájera ol Santo Domingo de la Calzada – 22 km

Today’s hike takes you to Santo Domingo de la Calzada. The day gives a preview of the next stage of the trail crossing the broad Spanish plateau, the Meseta Central, where grains are cultivated. The oak forests of Cirueñas provide refreshing shade along the way, and upon arrival in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, a visit to the cathedral is recommended. Here, a hen and a rooster live in memory of the legend of the young pilgrim who was saved from hanging by the Apostle James.

22 km, 5 h

Day 4 From Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Belorado – 26 km

We continue hiking out of La Rioja and into the Castilla y León region. The original pilgrim route follows a road, so we recommend a small detour along quieter trails instead. Today’s destination, Belorado, is a beautiful Castilian village with a rich history.

26 km, 6.5 h

Day 5 From Belorado to San Juan de Ortega (overnight stay in Atapuerca) – 23 km

Today’s stage passes through small, simple villages before transitioning into a more adventurous hike as we cross the Montes de Oca. The uphill trek is rewarded with the impressive town of San Juan, one of the highlights of the pilgrimage—not only for its elevated, beautiful location but also for its magnificent monastery.

(From here, you will be transferred to your hotel in Atapuerca.)

23 km, 6 h

Day 6 Atapuerca to Burgos – 20 km

On this final day, we traverse open countryside from Atapuerca to central Burgos. Once there, be sure to visit the beautiful Gothic cathedral.

20 km, 5 h

Day 7 Departure
