On this hiking holiday you will hike in the stunning Pinzgau region that borders between Tyrol and Salzburgerland. Here you will visit well-known resorts such as Zell am See and Saalbach-Hinterglemm. You’ll also experience the idyllic Pillersee Valley in Tyrol. Every day of this hiking holiday in Austria you will enjoy the stunning mountains, from the first day you start at Steinernen Meer, past the peaks of Leogang and Lofer to the Kitzbühel Alps. Much of the hiking is at a high altitude, so a highlight of the week is the panoramic views over all the peaks and down to the valleys. The hike also takes you across alpine meadows, through quiet forests and small cosy huts and villages. You will also experience some of the local delicacies, that will help you keep your energy levels up during the hiking days.

Day 1 Arrival in Maishofen/Zell am See

Arrive and check-in at your accommodation in Maishofen/Zell am See. Arrive in good time to explore the beautiful surroundings.

Day 2 Hike from Maishofen/ Zell am See to Maria Alm – 16 km

The day starts with a fantastic and challenging hike over the Kammereggalm, with a view to the Schwalbenwand and its famous double peaks. The day will offer impressive hiking with a fantastic view. You will hike through the Hofer Plattl forest, leading you to Hinterreit where you can take a much-needed break before continuing towards the final destination of the day, Maria Alm, a place of pilgrimage.

Day 3 Hike from Maria Alm to Saalfelden – 13 km

Today you will hike a pilgrimage trail across moors and meadows towards the mighty peaks of the Steinerne Meer. You will hike at high altitude which gives you a beautiful view up to Steinalm. Up here, there is a hut where you can stop to take a break and replenish your energy reserves. When you feel ready, start the hike down towards Saalfelden. On the way, you will pass Lichtenberg Castle, which is worth stopping to look at.

Day 4 Hike from Saalfelden to Fieberbrunn – 18 km

You start by hiking along streams in the Voderkaser gorge, this route will take you from the steep peaks of Leogang and Loferbergen to the Tyrolean side. You then continue via the Niederkaseralm and through the Griesel valley, the trail follows a wild and beautiful river that leads you to the marvellous Pillersee valley with the Lofer mountains as a backdrop.

Day 5 Hike from Fieberbrunn to Saalbach-Hinterglemm – 19 km

Today’s hike will take you through meadows, with views of the Kitzbühel Alps. You will hike through a deep valley, where the cabin will dangle above you, leading to a mine ‘Magnesitbergwerk’. After a much needed break in Burgeralm, where you should try the local dessert called Buchteln, your hike towards the famous resort of Saalbach-Hinterglemm begins.

Day 6 Hike around Saalbach-Hinterglemm – 10 km

Today you can choose to take a rest day in Saalbach. The price of the trip includes the so-called ‘Joker Card’ which gives both free access to lifts, some at a reduced price, outdoor pool, etc. If you want to hike today as well, you can take a tour where you pass Forsthof and Saal alp, further to Lindling alp. Up here you can enjoy a drink at a hut overlooking the Glemmtal.

Day 7 Hike from Saalbach-Hinterglemm to Maishofen/ Zell am See – 17 km

On the last hiking day of the week, you will hike on one of the most beautiful high trails in the Austrian Alps. From Saalbach, take the Schattberg X-press cable car up to Schattenberg, where you start your hike on the Pinzgauer-Spaziergang at an altitude of around 2000 metres. Here you will enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding mountain peaks. You then hike towards the Schmittenhöhe mountain, located above Zell am See, with 360 degree panoramic views. From here, take the cable car down to Zell am See, where you take a bus to Maishofen.
