St Jean Pied de Port – Logroño

Pilgrimage St Jean Pied de Port – Logroño – 9 days

This trip follows the pilgrimage route El Camino de Santiago, from France through Spain. It begins spectacularly as we cross the Pyrenees, then veer away from the Spanish coast through lush landscapes.

From Saint Jean Pied de Port to Logroño, we experience varied scenery and visit the well-known regions of Basque Country, Navarra, and Rioja. The hike also takes us to extraordinary cultural sites such as Roncesvalles, Pamplona, Puente la Reina, and Estella.

Immerse yourself in Spanish culture and be captivated by this first part of the Camino Francés, the most popular of all pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela.

Difficulty level

6 to 8 hours of walking per day on marked trails with mostly gentle inclines.

There is approximately 300 m of uphill walking each day, except on day 2 when there is 1250 m of uphill walking and little downhill.

Day 2 From Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncevalles – 26 km

A tough start to the hike as we climb up to Col de Roncesvalles (or Ibañeta), the symbolic border crossing between France and Spain. The day ends in Roncesvalles with its renowned church and monastery.

Eventful & fantastic trip
We have had an eventful and in every way fantastic trip despite sore muscles and aching feet. We met lots of lovely people on the trail, at the hotels, and in the restaurants. So thank you for the help with all the bookings.
