Collioure to Cadaques

Hike from Collioure to Cadaques, in the footsteps of Salvador Dali

Embark on a magnificent hiking journey in the footsteps of the surrealist Dali. The area has a rich history and culture, where many artists have found inspiration. You will hike along the coast from Collioure in France to Cadaques in Spain. The hike starts at the foot of the Pyrenees where the mountains stretch down to the sea with stunning views and beautiful bays, continuing through vineyards and the fragrant maquis in a beautiful coastal landscape. The best time for hiking is during spring or autumn when the climate is pleasant and the small seaside resorts revert to being really peaceful old fishing villages.
On most hiking days you can choose between a coastal or inland/mountain trail.

Highlights

  • A classic hiking trip in the footsteps of Dali
  • Nice baths in the various bays along the hike
  • A great mix of coast and mountains
  • Beautiful small villages along the trail

The hike then continues down towards the sea again, until you reach Cerbère.

Hiking in Dalí’s Footsteps
A very fun and varied hike with mostly fantastic views, but at times quite demanding. Using the provided GPS maps worked perfectly. The only negative was that the dinners were pre-arranged. Considering the wide variety available, we would have preferred to choose the restaurants ourselves.

With the Mediterranean as a neighbor
A wonderful hike with the Mediterranean as a neighbor. Mixed hiking, both challenging and easy. We found the hiking book we received difficult to follow. We quickly switched to following only maps and trail markings. Good accommodations and delicious food. A very nice hike that I gladly recommend to others!

Fantastic hiking trip!
Wonderful hiking trip! Good hotels, good food, but dinners don’t need to be included as the restaurant options were plentiful. Better to choose your own meals. Nice, hearty breakfasts at the hotels. Last day: Take the time to go to Figueres and visit the two museums about Salvador Dalí, Casa Natal Salvador Dalí and the Dalí Theatre-Museum. It tied the whole trip together. Gunnel
