Welcome to southern Sardinia and the Sulcis-Iglesiente region, known as Costa Verde – the green coast.
The area has a wild and beautiful nature, but also a history of mining that has characterised both the landscape and the people. This creates a unique combination of abandoned mining areas together with the natural beauty of the island.
As well as great cycling among the rolling countryside and stunning beaches, you’ll of course enjoy local specialities. The Sulcis region is famous, for example, for Carignano, a red grape that needs very little water and whose vines grow unusually low. Almost every family still has a small vineyard to produce Carignano del Sulcis and after one taste, you’ll understand why they still do!
The last day of cycling is in our opinion fantastic! You cycle on the so called Costa del Sud: with amazing panoramic views, undulating cycling up and down where you just enjoy how lovely it is to cycle. Once you arrive in Pula, you can reward yourself with a fresh aperitivo in the square.
The difficulty of the cycling is quite easy, 2 on a 5 degree scale. The daily rides are quite short, but also partly hilly due to the nature of the terrain. Some climbs are short and steep, while others are long and gradual. You will mostly cycle on paved roads and small country roads with very little traffic. There are almost no cycle paths.

After breakfast, a private transfer is included to Nebida, from where you start your bike ride along the coast, about 25 km to the port of Portovesme, where you take the ferry to the island of San Pietro. You will arrive at the Carloforte harbour where you can take a walk. The attentive can hear that the people living here have a completely different dialect from the rest of Sardinia. After a walk/tour in Carloforte you take another ferry, this time to Calasetta, on the island of Sant’Antioco, where you can enjoy excellent wines.

Day 3 Cycling at Sant'Antioco - 42 km

Day 4 Cycling from Sant’Antioco to Porto Pino – 35 km
This morning, your first stop is the village of Tratalias, with its Romanesque church dedicated to S. Maria di Montserrat. The ghost village with only a few renovated stone houses takes you back to the enchanted atmosphere of ancient Tatalia, which was once surrounded by three arches (two are still intact), which may have been entrances to the citadel. You will then cycle down towards Porto Pino, along a beautiful landscape of vineyards.

Day 5 Cycling around Porto Pino - 24 km
Also today, there are more different options. Today it is possible to cycle inland and stop at various villages for picnics, such as Sant’Anna Arresi, a beautiful small town with, among other things, two churches, the old and the new one, dedicated to Sant’Anna, the saint after whom the town is named. After the bike ride, you can just relax on the famous beach of Porto Pino, which has small coves with pink sand and crystal clear water.

Day 6 Cycling from Porto Pino to Teulada – 35 km
This morning, your first stop is the village of Masinas. After a stop in the village of Santadi (where there is a famous winery) you will pass the marvellous caves of Is Zuddas, which are worth a visit! A pleasant ride along a quiet road leads you to Teulada, the last stop of the day, famous for its terracotta pipes.
35 km, +210 m, -310 m
Day 7 Cycling from Teulada to Pula – 50 km
The last day of cycling is, in our opinion, fantastic! But also relatively challenging. You will cycle in Costa del Sud: with amazing panoramic views, undulating cycling up and down where you just enjoy how lovely it is to cycle. Once you arrive in Pula, you can reward yourself with a refreshing aperitivo in the square.
Just a few kilometres outside the city, you can also visit the archaeological site of Nora, an important Phoenician port where it is possible to admire some very well-preserved Roman mosaics.
